Salvador Bahia Airport welcomes new flights from ITA Trasportes Aéreos

Debut flight was celebrated with the traditional "baptism" of the aircraft and marks the beginning of the company's operations in the Northeast

The newest Brazilian airline, ITA Transportes Aéreos, was welcomed with a party this Thursday (1st), in the capital of Bahia. At Salvador Bahia Airport, a member of the VINCI Airports network, Itapemirim Transportes Aéreos’ Airbus A 320 had its debut in the Northeast celebrated with a water salute – the traditional "welcome baptism" – and passengers were welcomed with balloons.

The landing of the aircraft in Salvador, the only capital in the Northeast to receive flights from ITA Transportes Aéreos, marks the beginning of the company's daily operations between Guarulhos and the capital of Bahia, one of the most sought-after destinations nationwide. "It is an important milestone towards the recovery of the air network, which shows that our efforts have driven results. The presence in the select list of ITA's first destinations reflects the strategic role of Salvador Bahia Airport, a key connection point with other regions of the country", remarked Julio Ribas, CEO at Salvador Bahia Airport.

According to Itapemirim Group, ITA flights have been customized to offer the best passenger experience, and all aircraft seat rows are in category A of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) comfort seal. The expectation is that, by June 2022, the company will expand its coverage, and Bahia should be among the targets for the expansion of operations, with new routes and destinations served.

"Salvador is of vital importance for the operations of Itapemirim Transportes Aéreos. It is exactly for this reason that we chose the capital of Bahia to be one of the first to receive our operations. We want to connect Salvador to the main regions of Brazil", says the president of the Itapemirim Group, Sidnei Piva.

In addition to the highlight of the debut, flights will be operated by Itapemirim between Salvador Bahia Airport and Brasília (daily) and Porto Seguro (6 times a week) starting in August. ITA air transport will offer free baggage check-in for items weighing up to 23 kg and more space between seats. Tickets are for sale on the website or at accredited travel agencies.

On flights departing from Salvador, passengers will also benefit from strict compliance with health safety standards, a commitment undertaken by the VINCI Airports network in the context of the campaign "Protecting Each Other", which has intensified hygiene measures based on international protocols at the airports it manages.

About Salvador Bahia Airport

Located in Salvador, capital of Bahia and the first Brazilian capital, Salvador Bahia Airport has been part of the VINCI Airports network since January 2, 2018 through a 30-year Concession Contract. Since then, the airport has incorporated global operating standards, seeking to deliver more efficiency, safety and a better travel experience for its passengers. With this objective, works were carried out to modernize and expand the passenger terminal, an investment of R $ 700 million that increased its capacity by 50%, from 10 million to 15 million passengers per year.

Named as the "Most Sustainable Aerodrome in Brazil", Salvador Bahia Airport stands out for its pioneering spirit in environmental preservation actions. Guided by Air Pact, VINCI Airports' global strategy, the airport was the first in Brazil to reuse 100% of the water consumed, not to dispense solid waste for landfills and to have a solar plant – with 4.2 MW of power. The airport's actions to reduce carbon emissions led it to receive the Carbon Accreditation Certification (ACA Certification) by the International Airport Council (ACI).
