· The airline celebrated the first flight with a welcome ceremony attended by representatives from SKY, Salvador Airport, Embratur, the Bahia State Tourism Secretariat, and the Salvador Tourism and Culture Secretariat.

· This new route will operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays, expecting to transport over 2,400 passengers per month.

Salvador, April 2, 2025 – With the operation of its first flight today, SKY Airline inaugurates the route directly connecting the cities of Buenos Aires and Salvador, with two weekly flights, thereby strengthening tourism and business between the two countries. This new connection will allow more than 2,400 passengers per month to travel comfortably between the two cities in under five hours, reinforcing the airline’s expansion in South America.

The launch took place at Salvador Bahia Airport in the SKY Airline check-in area, with the presence of Julio Solar, Strategy, Networks, and Alliances Manager at SKY; Marcus Campos, Marketing and Promotions Manager at Salvador Bahia Airport; Maurício Bacelar, Secretary of Tourism of Bahia State; and Gegê Magalhães, Tourism Director of Salvador. Passengers arriving on the first flight enjoyed a capoeira and traditional Bahian dance performance.

“This route will allow us an additional connection from Buenos Aires to Brazil, this time adding Salvador da Bahia. We are very happy to continue increasing connectivity with northeastern Brazil, a region full of history, culture, and paradisiacal landscapes, which we currently also connect with Uruguay and Chile,” said Julio Solar.

“With this new route, we strengthen Salvador Airport’s position as a connection hub in South America, boosting tourism and regional integration. A new direct connection between Buenos Aires and Salvador offers more convenience for passengers and opens new opportunities for Bahia’s economic and cultural development,” highlighted Marcus Campos, Marketing and Air Promotions Manager at Salvador Bahia Airport.

“An emblematic flight for SKY Airline that increases its connectivity in Latin America. For the first time, it will fly from Argentina to Brazil. Choosing to connect Buenos Aires to Salvador demonstrates the strength of tourism that Bahia currently has in Latin America, the largest source market of tourists for Brazil,” said Luís Maurício Bacellar Batista, Secretary of Tourism of Bahia State.

With the inauguration of this new connection, SKY brings travelers from Bahia closer to Buenos Aires, a vibrant city combining history, culture, and entertainment. From the iconic Pelourinho to the beaches of Itapuã, the Bahian capital offers a unique experience. Moreover, tourists can enjoy the rhythm of axé music, capoeira, Afro-Brazilian cuisine, and the religious syncretism that mark the soul of this city, making it an unmissable destination in the region.

“We at Visit Buenos Aires celebrate SKY Airline’s new bet on connectivity with our main market. We are already working with SKY on campaigns aimed at increasing visitors from Chile and Peru, and we trust this new route will contribute to increasing the number of travelers coming from Brazil’s Northeast region,” said Valentín Díaz Gilligan, President of Visit Buenos Aires and the City’s Tourism Board.

In turn, Embratur’s president, Marcelo Freixo, also celebrated the inauguration of this route. “This flight is another result of the solid alliance between Embratur and SKY, which has contributed not only to facilitating the arrival of foreign tourists to Brazil but also to diversifying destination options for international travelers. Argentines are already the main source of tourists for the state of Bahia and Brazil as a whole, and we want to expand their access to the variety of experiences the state offers: beaches and sunshine all year round, as well as a rich cultural, gastronomic, Afro-tourism, and nature adventure tourism offer, such as that found in Chapada Diamantina,” he commented.
