Salvador Bahia Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network and an official supporter of Afro Fashion Day, hosted for the first time an audition for the event, reaffirming its purpose of “Connecting to Transform” through culture, diversity, and local appreciation. The action took place on Tuesday, September 9, at Check-in B, and welcomed 152 candidates seeking a place in the model casting.
Recognized as the largest Black fashion runway in Brazil, Afro Fashion Day brings together models, agencies, and the fashion scene, showcasing talents that reflect the plurality and representativeness of the Black population. The official runway show of the 11th edition is scheduled for November 1, during Brazil’s Black Awareness Month, under the theme “Beauty”, divided into three segments: Root, Expression, and Mirror. The project is organized by the Correio newspaper.
“Salvador Bahia Airport is more than a gateway for tourists: it is also a space for encounters and for valuing diversity. Hosting the first Afro Fashion Day audition reinforces our role as an environment open to culture and plurality, supporting initiatives that celebrate representation and inclusion,” said Daniela Franco, Communication Manager at VINCI Airports in Brazil.
The models selected in this first audition will move forward to the next stage of Afro Fashion Day, a production that has become one of Bahia’s most prominent events celebrating Black aesthetics and culture. As part of Salvador’s official “Novembro Negro” (Black November) calendar, the event honors ancestry, the present, and the possibilities of Afro-diasporic futures.
