Prepare your luggage

When preparing your luggage, keep an eye out for items that are prohibited or whose transportation is restricted. The rules are designed to ensure safety in air transportation. The rules for transporting different types of items can also vary depending on the airline and the country you are traveling to. If in doubt, check with your airline.

Forbidden items

- Neutralizing devices - items specifically intended to stun or immobilize, including:

Neutralizing or incapacitating chemicals, gases and aerosols, such as pepper spray, tear gas, acid sprays and animal repellent aerosols, among others.

- Explosive or incendiary substances and devices - explosive or incendiary materials and items that can or appear to be used to cause serious injury or to threaten aircraft safety, including:

Replica or imitation explosive devices;
Fireworks and other pyrotechnic articles; 
Substances subject to spontaneous combustion; 
Flammable liquids such as gasoline, ethanol, methanol, diesel oil and lighter fluid; 
Aerosols and atomizers, except those for medical use or personal hygiene, without exceeding the quantity of four bottles per person and the content, 
in each bottle is less than 300 ml or 300 g;
torch-type lighters, regardless of size. Among others.

- Chemicals, toxins and other dangerous items - capable of threatening the health of people on board the aircraft or the safety of the aircraft itself, including:

Chlorine for swimming pools and hot tubs; Liquid bleach; 
Oxidizing substances, such as lime powder, chemical bleach and peroxides; 
Corrosive substances, such as acids and alkaloids; 
Poisonous (toxic) and infectious substances, such as insecticides; Among others

Can be transported with restrictions

- Medicines - are allowed in hand luggage, as long as they are accompanied by a doctor's prescription;

- Firearms and ammunition - can be checked in, in accordance with the procedures set out in ANAC Resolution 461/2018. Check out more information at: https://www.anac.gov.br/assuntos/passageiros/o-que-posso-transportar.

- Toys or objects that represent weapons - only allowed in checked baggage;

- Sharp, cutting objects or tools - only allowed in checked baggage;

- Liquids, aerosols and gels - must be carried in bottles with a capacity of up to 100 ml and together may not exceed a capacity of one liter;

- Blunt instruments - objects that can cause serious injury if used to physically assault someone, including: baseball, golf, hockey, snooker and billiard clubs, truncheons, sticks and retractable batons, blunt martial arts equipment, English punches - are allowed in checked baggage only;

- Pens, pencils and pencil sharpeners - length less than 15 cm;

- Lighters with gas or fluid - length less than 8 cm, maximum of one per person;

- Matches - in a container with a capacity of no more than 40 sticks, with a maximum quantity of one box per person.
