The initiative mobilized around 100 volunteers, including employees and family members from both concessionaires. Throughout the morning, waste was collected along the beach and during an underwater cleanup, supported by professional divers contracted to remove debris from the seabed. Recyclable material was sent to the CAMAPET Cooperative, while non-recyclables were directed to co-processing by the airport.
The program also offered free health services, such as blood pressure checks, blood glucose tests, and massages, in addition to an educational campaign with local vendors and beachgoers, reinforcing the importance of proper waste disposal and collective care for the environment.
“This initiative goes beyond cleaning a public space. It is an opportunity to engage people, raise awareness, and show that every action matters when it comes to reducing pollution impacts. For us, it is a source of pride to be part of this global movement and to reinforce our commitment to sustainability,” said Alessandra Reis, Environment Manager at VINCI Airports in Brazil.
The event was part of the global World Cleanup Day movement, which in 2024 was officially included in the United Nations international calendar. The date has already mobilized more than 114 million people across 211 countries, becoming the largest civic action against waste in the world.
“This joint action is an example of how partnerships between concessionaires can generate positive results for society. By joining forces, we show that sustainability and socio-environmental responsibility are part of our mission to care for people and the city,” said Gabriella Brito, SGI Manager at Metrô Bahia.
