Salvador Bahia Airport introduces unprecedented structure among Brazilian airports for emergency coordination

Salvador Bahia Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, has introduced a Mobile Crisis Coordination Post (PCM), an unprecedented structure among Brazilian airports that enables emergency response to be coordinated directly at the scene. The vehicle is already in operation in the capital of Bahia and was designed to be deployed in situations covered by the airport’s emergency, security and business continuity plans. Equipped with communication systems, its own power supply and space for six leadership positions, the post brings together, in a single environment, professionals from the different organizations involved in responding to a critical situation.

The structure is a new development among Brazilian airports. Currently, the most common model for this type of operation is the use of 4x4 vehicles to transport teams to the site of an incident. The new post at Salvador Bahia Airport functions as a mobile coordination room, with approximately 6 m² and six positions for the leaders involved in emergency management.

In addition to the workspace, the vehicle has a bathroom and compartments for transporting stretchers and pre-hospital care equipment. The structure also features computers, four screens for monitoring information, a videoconferencing system, cameras, GSM phones and Starlink antennas, ensuring connectivity even in situations where other means of communication may be compromised.

“In an emergency, having a structure prepared at the scene allows leaders to closely monitor what is happening and make decisions more quickly. The post functions as an extension of the crisis room, bringing the resources needed to coordinate the response closer to the incident. It also provides infrastructure for leaders to remain at the scene, maintain communication and continuously monitor the situation,” says Jader Depa, Operational Efficiency Manager at Salvador Bahia Airport.

The PCM will be used in incidents involving the airport that trigger the unit’s emergency plans, bringing together the teams and institutions responsible for the response. The structure may also be made available to support disaster situations or force majeure events, subject to authorization from the company’s senior leadership.

The vehicle also has a dedicated generator, which keeps its equipment operating continuously. As a result, the post combines mobility, communication and infrastructure to support emergency coordination directly at the location where incidents occur.
