· Salvador Bahia Airport was one of the award winners at the 6th edition of Inova Infra;
· Polyurea project in the parking lot combines operational efficiency and sustainability.
Salvador Bahia Airport, a member of VINCI Airports, has received the Inova Infra Award for the third consecutive year, granted by the magazine O Empreiteiro, for its polyurea waterproofing project in the parking lot.
The solution stands out for its sustainable and innovative nature. Polyurea is a material free of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which reduces environmental impacts and also meets the requirements of the LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Additionally, its application generates very little waste, reinforcing the airport’s environmental commitment. From a technical standpoint, the material prevents infiltration points, while its elastic memory allows it to accommodate thermal and structural variations.
The project uses this technology over an 18,500 m² area of the airport parking lot, offering fast curing and an estimated lifespan of 20 years. The second floor parking lot construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025. The technology allows execution in stages, keeping part of the parking lot operational during the works.
“This award reflects our pursuit of solutions that connect technology and purpose, turning challenges into opportunities. Polyurea not only protects our infrastructure but also strengthens our legacy of innovation and environmental responsibility,” says Ronie Lima, Contracts Supervisor at Salvador Bahia Airport.
Among 136 submitted projects, Salvador Bahia Airport’s was one of the winners at the 6th edition of the Inova Infra Award, which aims to recognize innovative and sustainable engineering solutions for infrastructure, focusing on operational improvements and asset maintenance. The project was selected by an independent jury that evaluated initiatives bringing technological advances to the sector.
Award History
In 2024, Salvador Bahia Airport was already recognized for the Solar Energy System project at the International Cargo Terminal (TECA), which meets 100% of the location’s energy demand with photovoltaic panels. The initiative was awarded at the 5th edition of the Inova Infra Award as part of the airport’s decarbonization strategies.
Earlier, in 2023, the airport received the same award for the Solar Plant installed alongside the taxiway, consolidating its leadership in sustainable projects in Brazilian aviation. These achievements demonstrate the airport’s consistent trajectory towards the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
“Receiving this recognition for the third consecutive year reinforces our commitment to innovation, quality in airport infrastructure, and especially sustainable practices that preserve the environment,” adds Ronie Lima.
