VINCI Airports stood out at the award ceremony of the Sustainable Airports Program, promoted by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). Five airports managed by the network in Brazil — Salvador, Manaus, Porto Velho, Boa Vista, and Rio Branco — were recognized for their environmental best practices during the event held this Monday (8) in Brasília. The result reinforces VINCI Airports’ commitment to sustainable and innovative airport infrastructure management.

Created by ANAC in 2019, the Sustainable Airports Program aims to encourage the adoption of sustainable practices in Brazilian civil aviation. The methodology of the 2024 edition is structured around three evaluation axes: Society, which measures environmental governance and airport social engagement; Inputs, which evaluates energy and water consumption and waste generation; and Externalities, which considers emissions and noise generated by airport operations.

Since beginning its operations in Brazil in 2018 with the concession of Salvador Airport, VINCI Airports has implemented a robust environmental sustainability plan. Key initiatives include the use of 100% renewable energy, achieving the "zero waste to landfill" goal, managing effluents without discharging them into the environment (zero effluents), obtaining the ISO 14001 environmental certification, and the ACA 4+ certification, an international carbon reduction certification awarded by the Airport Carbon Accreditation program.

“Receiving this recognition from ANAC reinforces VINCI Airports’ commitment to sustainability as a central value in our operations in Brazil and worldwide. This achievement is the result of a collective effort: environmental responsibility is not only with the environmental team, but with all teams involved in our airports. We are building solutions for the future, with actions that positively impact the areas where we operate and inspire other initiatives within aviation. Working collaboratively, sharing best practices, is what strengthens the sector as a whole and allows us to continuously evolve,” says Julio Ribas, CEO of VINCI Airports in Brazil.

At the awards, Salvador Airport was recognized in the Society and Inputs axes in the category of airports with more than 5 million passengers per year, the same axis in which Manaus Airport won in the category of airports with up to 5 million passengers per year. In the category of terminals with up to 1 million passengers per year, Boa Vista, Porto Velho, and Rio Branco airports won in the Externalities axis.
