In the month that celebrates International Women’s Day (March 8), Salvador Bahia Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, stands out for the presence of women in strategic and leadership positions. Currently, women hold 36% of leadership roles at the airport in the capital of Bahia. In addition, they represent more than half of the workforce, accounting for 51% of all jobs at the airport.

Since the beginning of the concession, Salvador Bahia Airport has consistently maintained numbers above the national average regarding female representation in prominent roles. The airport goes even further by providing opportunities for women in positions that have historically been associated with men, such as in the airport’s operational area and the Fire Department (Airport Fire Brigade).

In the operational area, for example, women occupy almost half of the positions (47%), representing an increase of 10% over the last two years.

This scenario reflects the commitment of VINCI Airports, the company that operates the airport, to ensuring gender equality within its workforce and expanding opportunities for women across different sectors. As a global leader in concessions and infrastructure operations, the company monitors pay equity between men and women performing the same role.

In addition, every year the airport participates in the VINCI Airports Global Gender Equality Assessment, achieving a score of 99/100 in 2025, based on criteria such as equal pay, promotion opportunities and post-maternity leave policies.

This commitment is also reflected in the internal structure of Salvador Bahia Airport. The airport holds the “Selo Lilás” (Lilac Seal), awarded by the Government of the State of Bahia, recognizing organizations committed to gender equality and the fight against violence against women.

These efforts are also aligned with the fifth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) established by the United Nations General Assembly, which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Actions and campaigns

VINCI Airports’ initiatives go beyond promoting women in leadership and operational roles. The company also develops campaigns and actions aimed at combating violence against women and sexism.

During the week of International Women’s Day, VINCI Airports launched the campaign “Gender is not a criterion. Competence is.”, reinforcing the company’s commitment to gender equality in the workplace.

The initiative included talks and roundtable discussions addressing topics such as equal opportunities, sexism and the challenges faced by women in the professional environment, encouraging dialogue and the creation of a workplace that is increasingly safe, inclusive and free from discrimination.

The campaign aims to position the company clearly and intentionally among employees, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive and discrimination-free professional environment at all levels.

However, these initiatives are not limited to the month of March. In August last year, Salvador Airport participated in an unprecedented national campaign against harassment and sexual misconduct in civil aviation, coordinated by ABR – Aeroportos do Brasil, in partnership with the 13 concessionaires responsible for the 59 federal airports granted in Brazil.

With the slogan “Harassment Doesn’t Take Off”, the initiative sought to raise awareness among passengers, workers and the entire airport community about the importance of promoting safer, more respectful and inclusive environments within the aviation sector.

More recently, in January this year, in response to the alarming rates of violence against women in Brazil, Salvador Airport launched an awareness campaign to end violence against women.

The initiative used the airport environment as a space for information and social mobilization, reinforcing that sexism and violence are issues that concern the whole society.

The campaign also highlighted the Women’s Assistance Hotline (180), a national service that provides guidance and encourages the reporting of violence cases, helping to expand awareness among passengers, employees and airport partners.

The initiative aimed to transform care into concrete action and broaden awareness across the entire airport community.
